There are those who love to spend the summer at the beach and those who prefer to chill out in the mountains: you can’t argue with taste! Especially when you’re talking about the incomparable Italian Dolomites. Do you know which are the most famous peaks of this mountainous group of eastern Italy? We take you today on a virtual tour of the Tre Cime, or the Three Peaks, of Lavaredo.

The Three Peaks of Lavaredo are iconic mountains that you’ve undoubtedly seen reproduced in images that populate the web. Today we are going to explore this splendid site of international fame in the world of mountaineering and among mountain enthusiasts to discover what there is to do here, and not just in the summer, at high altitude, just one step away from the sky!

The Three Cime di Lavaredo are located in South Tyrol, or Alto Adige, in a place called Val Pusteria, in the Tre Cime Natural Park, and, given their uniqueness, they couldn’t not be a UNESCO heritage site. They are distinguished according to  height: Cima Grande, located in the center and 2999 meters high, Cima Ovest which measures 2937 meters, and Cima Piccola, only 2857 meters.

When to visit the Three Peaks of Lavaredo?

Which is the best season to admire this one-of-a-kind view?

Without a doubt the end of spring, when you can still enjoy the quiet and silence, or early fall, between the end of September and October, when you can admire the three obelisks that dominate the landscape without hordes of tourists that crowd the area.

If you prefer a hike through the Alps in summer, wake up early and follow the signposted walking route that lasts between 4 and 6 hours in total: the view will repay the effort!

There are also many activities for those of you who are not mountaineers, and who are visiting the slopes of the Dolomites for the first time.

You can try Nordic walking, swimming, or just relax in a boat in the crystal clear waters of one of the most beautiful lakes in the area, Lake Dobbiaco. Lake Braies, also just  a stone’s throw from the peaks, is a magical place where it’s almost impossible to see the boundary between the waters and the sky.

You can go horseriding, take long walks, and why not treat yourself to a special view from a paraglider, or feel like an explorer in a hot-air balloon?

Sesto, San Candido, Dobbiaco, Villabassa and Braies are just some of the characteristic towns near the three sister peaks.

From Auronzo di Cadore, the area where the peaks rise, Venice is just a short way away. If you are traveling in Italy, come to the city on the lagoon and tell us about your dream vacation, we will do our best to satisfy you by personalizing your trip!
